Job Description

Buyer - Leyland - £34K-£36K

Key Responsibilities

·Managing the purchase and supply of all procured goods and services.

·Analysing internal Purchasing processes and improving where necessary to ensure continuous improvement in department performance.

·Communicating with higher management to understand the company’s overall goals and objectives.

·Oversee the day to day Purchasing function to ensure low stock levels and price reductions are at the forefront of all tasks.

·Monitor and forecast stock levels.

·Managing a large supplier base.

·Negotiating improved supplier terms, as necessary.

·Negotiating improved pricing and service levels with all vendors and suppliers.

·Reporting of movements in price and terms to higher management as required.

·Managing supplier relationships to improve supplier performance and to build successful supply chain partnerships.

·Manage supplier quality and supply issues as necessary.

·Identify and assess new supply options for potential new, and current purchasing requirements.

·Attend trade shows and exhibitions as necessary.

·Control the internal Supplier Approval process ensuring that all suppliers meet the relevant standard and all relevant certification and records are up to date, as required.

·Arrange and attend supplier meetings, as required, in order to analyse and discuss supplier performance, as well as gain knowledge of the full portfolio of products and services offered.

·Attend internal meetings to update the wider team on purchasing issues.

·Regular communication with Production to finalise and confirm the weekly production schedule based on customer requirements and available material stocks.

Key Requirements

·An experienced buyer with extensive knowledge of purchasing in a FMCG manufacturing environment.

·Highly motivated individual that understands and works towards company objectives.

·Proven ability to communicate effectively across all areas and levels of the business.

·Excellent time management and organisational skills.

·Strong multi-tasking skills.

·Able to work to strict deadlines and work under pressure.

·A flexible attitude to all tasks.

·Previous man-management experience preferred.

·Strong IT skills required across multiple systems and software. (Good proficiency with Excel).

·Able to demonstrate continuous improvement through purchasing processes.

·Broad knowledge of suppliers, components, packaging and raw materials within the personal care, cosmetic and household sector preferred.

·Proven history of successful supplier negotiation.

The Role :

To co-ordinate the Purchasing element of the business. Controlling the day-to-day activities of the Purchasing function, with a strong bias towards cost savings and stock reductions across the business. Ensuring the supply of goods into the business are managed effectively, efficiently and at the lowest possible cost. Building and maintaining successful supplier relationships to the benefit of the business. Also, investigating new, alternate, supply sources to improve cost and/or service levels.
